Why the UEL final should be Mourinho's game

Out of the many reasons that don't compel me to follow the UEL, the presence of  Jose Mourinho in the final is what made me get interested in it as he is exceptional because of his unique combination of tactical mastery, charismatic personality, and a track record of success in top European competitions. His ability to inspire and lead teams, coupled with his innovative strategies and mind games, have made him one of the most intriguing and influential figures in the world of football-personally my favorite manager.

The Romans put in a gritty performance at the back to hold Leverkusen to a goalless draw in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final to progress to the final, having beaten them 1-0 a week ago in Rome. They sat deep inside their half and defended with their bodies on the line to survive the hosts' relentless attacks on goal. Fans might call it unworthy because they don't create much in the opposition but it is ugly, effective, and gets the job done. Mourinho is the best at "Ugly wins".He should win this because he is the MVP of soccer

In fact, Xabi Alonso's men had 23 attempts, and yet they could not find a way to beat Rui Patricio between the sticks. On the contrary, Roma failed to register a single shot on target and instead resorted to time-wasting tactics to run down the clock.

Mourinho has five major continental titles to his name – two Champions League wins, two Europa League trophies, and last year’s triumph in the inaugural Europa Conference League with the Italian side.

If Roma lifts the trophy in Hungary, Mourinho, 60, will pull clear of Giovanni Trapattoni, who also won five major European trophies in his coaching career.

Sevilla has a pedigree of their own. Should they win their seventh UEFA Cup/Europa League title here, only five sides will have more major European trophies – Real Madrid (16), Barcelona (12), Milan (nine), Liverpool (nine), and Bayern Munich (eight).

Unlike the incredible experience of Mourinho, this will be Sevilla boss José Luis Mendilibar’s first major European final. The good news for him is that a Spanish manager has won the UEFA Cup/Europa League on 12 previous occasions, more than the managers from any other nation, with six of the last 10 finals being won by Spanish managers.

Sevilla fought back to reach yet another final as substitute Erik Lamela scored with a fabulous header five minutes into extra time to earn a gritty 2-1 win over Juventus on Thursday, securing a 3-2 aggregate victory

“I think you can be better and better with your experiences. I think your brain becomes sharper and the accumulation of knowledge is better with the years.”- Jose Mourinho

Sevilla’s veteran wing-back Jesus Navas -“We transform [on Europa League nights] and it’s incredible how we come out in every match,” said the former Manchester City player.

“What Jose Luis has done with us has been fundamental. He has brought the best out of us, it’s something to be very proud of. He deserves to stay with us for a long time.”
