Can Aston Villa compete again?

RICH HISTORY

Aston Villa has a rich history, having been founded in 1874 and being one of the founding members of the Football League in 1888. Aston Villa has a passionate fan base and has enjoyed success both domestically and internationally.

Aston Villa has won the English top-flight league title seven times, with their most recent title coming in the 1980-1981 season. They have also won the FA Cup seven times, most recently in 1957, and the Football League Cup five times, with their most recent victory in the 2019-2020 season.

Aston Villa has also won the European Cup, which is now known as the UEFA Champions League, once in their history. They achieved this feat in the 1981-1982 season, defeating Bayern Munich 1-0 in the final. Since the name change, Aston Villa has not qualified for the Champions League. However, they have had some appearances in other European competitions like the UEFA Cup (now UEFA Europa League) and the Intertoto Cup.

HOW EMERY CAN HELP VILLA COMPETE

Villa will play European football for the first time in 13 years and just four years since McGinn was part of the team that clinched promotion to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs

Emery is the workaholic and obsessive coach known to regularly rack up 16-hour days. Emery often cuts his own clips of games to review with players individually and sometimes watches back Villa’s matches up to five times to prepare feedback for his staff and squad.

It is easy to forget Villa were outside the Premier League relegation zone only on goals scored when Emery’s predecessor, Steven Gerrard, was sacked at the end of October, and with all at his disposal, maximizing his squad potential and improving his players he pushed them to the Europa League.

With his pedigree in the Europa League almost having won it every time he participated in it although not having many World Class players, it is fair enough to say that Villa could easily be a team to be feared in Europe  if Emey has a decent transfer window, the only real difference being that Emery is handling an underdog and a relatively unknown quantity back to Europe.
