Are crystal palace worth the hype?

Thanks to that glass ceiling which the Sky Six has spent so much money on solidifying, mid-table PL consolidation is the best every other club in the country can realistically hope for, barring some Leicester-style miracle. Occasionally you get everything right and that means you can make a charge for a Europa League spot, but we all know that regression to the mean is inevitable. Brighton fans know they'll be right up against it again when the table resets in the summer. They saw what happened after Southampton and Burnley had their moments in the sun, and they know the same trend is inevitable because they'll just be outspent and their best players bought off.

Palace fans will be happy they're probably not getting relegated but on the other hand, this is why I think they will be left frustrated there could be arguments but they will have to overcome certain things to at least achieve European football or a cup trophy

Lack of signings
Palace have lost star player Wilfried Zaha on a free this summer, along with stalwarts James McArthur and Luka Milivojevic along with other senior players, but have so far brought in just Jefferson Lerma. There are also significant worries Michael Olise could leave and other key players

Hodgson calling for transfers at Palace: "We’ve lost five senior players from last season and brought one in – Jefferson Lerma; he’s good and we’re happy to have him in – but there is still that hole of five senior players in the squad, two of whom were two of the real stars of the team.

Overreliance on Eze
Luckily for Palace, Hodgson has brought the best out of the attacking midfielder signed from QPR in 2020 and he was justifiably rewarded with a first senior England cap in June. Eze has yet to agree to an extension to his contract that expires in 2025 but should thrive on the extra responsibility on his shoulders now Zaha has flown the nest.
